The Year of the Ox!

Chinese New Year is right around the corner, and we’ll be entering the Year of the Ox! The year of the Ox may also be known as the year of the Buffalo or Cow. Here is a look at some of the things that the Year of the Ox may have in store for us in 2021.

Chinese New year - Year of the OX

The Year of the Ox

The Chinese lunar calendar is divided into 12 animal signs. Of those, the Ox is the second of the 12 year cycle. 2021 is a Metal Ox year. This is a harmonious combination, since metal comes from earth, and the Ox is an earth sign. However, one characteristic of metal is that it can be quite harsh, so don’t be deceived by this alignment.

Ox Children

Ox children tend to be steadfast and honest. They may experience trouble in childhood, but tend to have long lives and fulfilling adulthoods. In work, Ox children are hardworking and industrious. The inclusion of Metal may make Ox children very busy, always looking for more things to do. Ox children can expect to have good health throughout their lives.

Ox children prefer routine and schedules, and can be stubborn.

Outlook for the Year of the Ox

According to Feng Shui expert Raymond Lo, here are some changes and trends we may see in the Year of the Metal Ox. Industries belonging to the fire element should thrive this year, because metal is fire’s money element. Fire industries include energy generation, entertainment, and restaurants.

Businesses belonging to the earth element will also do well, including real estate, mining, insurance, and the tech sector.

The Year of the Metal Ox may also bring us a period of significant innovation and technological progress. For comparison, 1961 was a Metal Ox year and we saw advances in space flight during that time, such as the flight of Yuri Gagarin.

Were You Born in an Ox Year?

Other recent Ox years include 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, and 2009. If you were born during an Ox year, you’ll do best with stable careers, with plenty of structure and routine. You will do best in a career that you’re really interested in. Career prospects for Oxen are stable this year, and though that may prevent disaster, it will also make it harder to achieve career breakthroughs. This is a good year for Oxes to brush up on their professional skills in anticipation of more fruitful career years.

2021 may bring turbulence into the lives of those born in an Ox year, though the inclusion of the Metal element may mitigate that to some extent. When encountering difficulties this year, Oxen would do well to seek the support and help of friends and family.
