Winter Wardrobe Essentials for Your Baby or Toddler
On chilly or cold days, bundle your little one in layers for versatile and functional fashion. From head to toe, here are the winter wardrobe essentials for your baby or toddler.
1. Hat
A hat will help keep your little one’s head and face warm. The hat should cover the ears and fasten under the chin with Velcro or a hook-and-loop fastener. Avoid string closures since they can become a choking hazard.
2. Base Layer
The base layer of clothing lies directly over your child’s skin. This layer should wick moisture, or sweat, away from your child to prevent chills.
Look for quick-drying fabric, such as synthetic material or wool. Since cotton will absorb sweat and keep it against your child’s body, avoid this material when choosing a base layer.
3. Middle Layer
While the base layer of clothing helps with moisture control, the mid layer traps body heat to keep your child toasty warm. Wool and fleece sweaters, sweatpants, and jackets work well for this.
4. Outer Layer
The outer layer can be an insulating snowsuit or coat and snow pants. Some outer layers, such as snowsuits, sometimes include an attached hood to keep your child’s head warm.
If your little one likes to play in the snow, the outer layer should also be waterproof. This will prevent moisture from soaking into your little one’s clothes and chilling them.
5. Gloves or Mittens
Since children’s extremities get very cold quickly, proper gloves and mittens are winter wardrobe essentials for your child. When choosing between mittens or gloves, consider how cold it is outside and which activities your child will do. Gloves allow greater dexterity than mittens, but mittens retain more warmth.
If your little one will play with the snow, give them waterproof gloves or mittens. Ensure your child has comfortable mittens and gloves since uncomfortable accessories won’t stay on for long.
6. Socks and Boots
Keep your little one’s feet comfortable with warm socks and winter boots. For toddlers, the boots should have excellent traction.
Give your child waterproof, not water-resistant, boots. To accommodate the warm, thick socks, choose snow boots one or two sizes larger than your child’s shoe size.
When it’s time to come back inside, your child will love warming up with a soft blanket or cuddly lovey from Bunnies by the Bay. You can even add a custom embroidered message for a unique personalized baby girl gift. Shop with us today for a warm addition to your home.
